Suzanne Tevlin is a well known artist and lecturer in Toronto. Author of “The Conspiracy of Silence; Gericault’s ‘Raft of the Medusa’ and the Abolitionist Movement” and “The Invisible Woman: Searching for The Black Female in Western Art,” she was, recently, the only Canadian artist to be invited to take part in the exhibition “GOLD” at the Musée Belvedere in Vienna.

As an international lecturer and artist she spent 12 years in Europe where she lectured at Le Musée Ephrussi de Rothschild and La Villa Kerylos in France. While in France she founded “The Tevlin Perspective: Art History from the Artist’s Point of View”. Suzanne has lectured in major museums in Europe and North America, as well as the University of Toronto, University of St Michael’s College, OCAD, TPL, Parsons-Paris, Ghost Ranch, WAAC, Campbell House, Arts & Letters, and HotDocs/Curious Minds.

Suzanne Tevlin has been associated with a Paris gallery for over 30 years, and has had numerous exhibitions in Paris, Monaco, along the Cote d’Azur and in London, as well as in Canada. She is represented in collections throughout Europe and North America.

Dear Art Friends,

Wow! What a weekend we have had here in Canada. I'm sure anyone who reads these words is standing firmly behind our Prime Minister. I thought he was brilliant Friday Midnight. I read his statement with relief, and then slept well, knowing that I would continue to be a Canadian until my final hour. 

 

Whilst all of this was going on I was up to my neck in a really exciting new mixed media monoprinting project. The gel plate is enormous fun to work with. It suits me well, as it lends itself to drawing as well as painting in every imaginable medium. It's perfect for me in the midst of my very heavy rehearsal schedule for Mahler 8, which will be performed at Roy Thomson Hall on the 27th of November.

 

I know my readers love art, some dabble, and others, like myself, have worked all of their lives under the direction of their ever present muse.  

 

Considering this, I've decided to give a series of very small workshops, probably 2 students with 3 max. Each workshop will introduce one or two basic gel plate printing techniques. I'll sort out the details once I know who is interested.

 

The workshops will be held December 2, 11, & 15. Different days, I know, but this will allow people who are busy on certain days a chance to join a workshop on another day. And, of course, you may take all three workshops. I imagine most will want to. Trust me, you will find the technical possibilities inspiring.

 

The classes last 2 to 3 hours. That is to say, I will set aside 3 hours, but that will probably include time for tea and a chat. The slowpokes can continue working the entire time, but others may find 3 hours  fatiguing. 

 

The cost will be $175 per student, for each class. This price will include materials, and after every class, you should have a few gorgeous prints to take home to frame and show your family during the holidays.

 

 

The Spanish Question

I will be offering a new series of lectures this autumn. “The Spanish Question” will be an 8 week series of my very popular 2hour art talks.

 

We will concentrate on the remarkable work that came out of Spain, the most conservative western European country of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, and beyond.

  

 

The course will be held in my home studio. I can manage up to 8 adults. We will meet Friday mornings from 10 to 12, during January and February 2027. The cost will be $320 for the 8 week programme.
